Description
I arranged this virtual studio day as a tribute to the English silhouettist Sarah Harrington.
Silhouette cutting takes place online. All my studio days consist of a series of 10-minute portrait sittings, which take place over Zoom.
After booking your sitting(s) you’ll receive an email ticket containing a Zoom link and further information. I’ll also send a reminder shortly before the event.
On the day you’ll be asked to log in to the Zoom event two minutes before the time you chose. I’ll cut silhouettes of you and your family and pop them in the post afterwards.

Who was Sarah Harrington?
Sarah Harrington was a talented English silhouettist from the late-Georgian period. Her work is unusual as it is mostly cut out, in an age when most artists were still painting silhouettes, and also because she was a woman. Very few women were able to make a living as artists in the period, so she can be considered something of a feminist icon!

Sarah Harrington’s work is doubly fascination ti me since it is all cut iside out. Instead of cutting black paper, she pierced a hole in a sheet of white paper and cut the silhouette from the inside. This hole was later backed with black paper or some other material to make the silhouette. She is the first artist I’ve ever come across to use this technique.
